Accessibility statement
This statement explains how accessible the AI Register is and what to do if you find a problem.
How accessible this site is
We want everyone to be able to use the AI Register. This statement covers every page published at this address.
This site is built on the Scottish Government Design System, which is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA. We believe this site meets that standard, with the exceptions listed under "Known problems" below.
What we have done to make this site accessible
Every page is plain HTML with no framework running in your browser, which keeps the site fast, predictable and usable with assistive technology.
- Text sizes start at 16 pixels and step up to 19 pixels on larger screens, and you can zoom to 400% without losing content.
- Colour is never the only way information is given, and text meets the contrast ratios WCAG 2.2 AA asks for.
- Every control can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, and the focus indicator is a high-contrast black-on-yellow marker.
- The navigation menu, the page links on the register, the accordions on system pages and the "See more information" disclosures all work with JavaScript switched off.
- Pages are written in plain English, and headings describe what follows them.
Known problems
Searching and filtering the register need JavaScript. Everything else does not: the register is published a page at a time, and the page links at the foot of each page work without JavaScript, so every system is reachable either way.
The decorative graphics on cards and system pages are generated patterns rather than photographs. They carry no information and are hidden from screen readers, but they are also not yet meaningful images.
The contact and feedback forms hand your message to your own email application rather than submitting it to a server. If you have no email application configured, use the address below instead.
How to report a problem
If you find a problem that is not listed above, or you need information from this site in a different format, tell us. Include the address of the page and what went wrong. We aim to reply within ten working days.
If you are not happy with our response
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) enforces the accessibility regulations. If you are unhappy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which is the body that handles enquiries on the EHRC’s behalf.
How we tested this site
We test every page automatically against WCAG 2.2 AA using Axe, as part of the build. That suite runs on the home page, a transparency report, a concept card, and the About, Participate and Privacy pages, at four screen sizes.
Automated testing cannot find everything, so we also check by hand that the site can be operated with a keyboard alone and that it works with JavaScript disabled.
